Getting Your Own Trucking Authority: A New Owner-Operator's Checklist
Getting your own trucking authority is a big step up from driving for a carrier — but it comes with a checklist of regulatory, insurance, and business steps that have to be in place before you can legally haul a load under your own MC number.
Miss one of these and you can end up with active authority you still can't actually use — insurance that doesn't meet FMCSA minimums, no BOC-3 on file, or no way to track the miles IFTA will ask for at filing time. Work through this list in order and you'll be ready to book that first load the moment your authority is active.
