How to Vet a Dispatcher or Carrier Using Reviews, Not Just a Gut Feeling
Every dispatcher who wants your business is going to sound confident on the first call — that's the easy part. The questions worth asking only get you someone's version of their own track record. Reviews from people who've actually worked with them get you someone else's.
What to Actually Look For in a Profile
- How long they've been active, not just how long they claim to have been dispatching — a profile with real history behind it tells you more than a stated number of years.
- How many people have actually left feedback. One glowing review is an anecdote. A consistent pattern across several is a track record.
- Whether reviews mention specifics — rate negotiation, communication during a problem, how fast they responded — versus vague praise that could be about anyone.
- Whether anything negative shows up, and what it's actually about. A single complaint about a slow week during peak season reads differently than a repeated pattern about the same issue.
Reviews Are a Starting Point, Not a Replacement for Diligence
Ratings and reviews add transparency you wouldn't otherwise have, but they don't replace actually verifying who you're about to work with. Confirm authority is active, insurance is current, and whatever's discussed on a call actually matches what ends up in the written agreement — a good review doesn't mean the terms are enforceable if they were never written down.
Checking Both Directions
This isn't one-sided. Dispatchers are checking carriers too — a carrier's own history (how they communicate, whether they've burned previous dispatchers, how reliable they've been on past loads) matters just as much before committing time to finding them freight.
Where to Actually Do This
A searchable Directory with real ratings and reviews attached to member profiles does more of this work in five minutes than a string of phone calls would in a week — you're checking a pattern across real relationships, not taking one person's word for their own reputation.
